Over the last decade, Trilogy’s Intensive Club Experience has helped hundreds of high school athletes find the RIGHT collegiate fit for them both on and off the field.
ICE alum Jimmy Spillane found his home at RIT where he was a standout player in helping the Tigers win back-to-back Division 3 national titles in 2021 and 2022. We checked in with Jimmy since graduating from RIT to see what he is up to and to see how Trilogy Lacrosse helped him on his journey:
What is your Favorite Trilogy memory?
Jimmy Spillane: I have so many good memories from my week in the ICE program. My favorite memory as a team was getting to spend time in the dorms with people from all over the country for the first time in my life. Being able to have friends from places like Kentucky, Georgia, and Utah was such a cool experience.
How did the Intensive Club Experience (ICE) impact your development as a player and your recruiting journey?
JS: I really can’t say enough about how much Coach Boyle made an impact on me in such a short time. It was the first time anyone showed me the nuances and principles around being a great lacrosse player. As a result, I was able to triple the amount of points I had from the year before in my high school season. In recruiting, Coach Boyle redefined how I viewed my value as a recruit. I was dead set on playing Division I lacrosse, and was becoming jaded and discouraged that I wasn’t getting the attention I knew I deserved. Coach Boyle pulled me aside in the cafeteria one day and talked to me about the opportunities that Division III had. I was upset at first that another coach was telling me to broaden my horizons, however he was so genuine that I knew he had my best interest in me. As a result of going that route, I was able to go to Memorial Day weekend three times, win one national championship as a player, one as a coach, set program records, and make lifelong friendships with equally hungry teammates, many of whom are now playing in the NLL and PLL. None of that would have come to fruition if the ICE program was simply about getting kids into D1 schools to boost their own resume.
What are you doing now since you’ve graduated from RIT?
JS: Since graduating from RIT, I have been able to build my dream career. I am currently a Doctor of Physical Therapy at one of the best sports clinics in the country, allowing me to work with many high level lacrosse athletes in the Baltimore area to get them back on the field doing what they love. I have also become a head coach for one of the best youth lacrosse programs in the country, and continue my passion for teaching faceoffs by recently accepting the opportunity to run the Faceoff Academy’s Baltimore branch.
